​​Awards and Recognitions Highlights

​​​​​​Broward County received numerous awards and recognitions for programs and services promoting livability in our community and enhancing ​quality of life.

National Association of Counties (NACo) Awards

Broward County received 18 Achievement Awards from the Natio​nal Association of Counties (NACo) for innovative and effective government programs that enhance the quality of life for residents. NACo award winners for 2021 are:

  • BEST IN CATEGORY: Broward County Paratransit Rider's Choice Pilot Program: Created to provide a new enhanced transportation choice for paratransit customers to complement their existing services.
  • Harbormaster Tower Mural: The vividly colored mural painted nine stories high on Port Everglades's iconic Harbormaster Tower by Ernesto Maranje.
  • In Flight Public Art Mural on the North Runway's Jet Blast Deflector: A new mural adorning a jet blast deflector on the North Runway (10R-28L) at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
  • Crowdsource Data and Code Enforcement: New mechanisms for crowdsourcing data from the public, resulting in the ability for the public to directly contact the County with COVID-19 concerns and track the results of their requests via a public-facing GIS dashboard.
  • Business Skills for the Modern Creator: A free, virtual bi-weekly professional development series hosted by the Cultural Division and taught by industry professionals providing skills needed to become more agile and business-savvy in the changing economy.
  • FLLy Safer, FLLy Smarter, FLLy Better Public Confidence Campaign: Highlights operational changes undertaken at FLL during COVID-19 to restore consumer's confidence in travel.
  • The Broward County Way – A Reference Guide to International Protocol for Broward County: Office of Economic & Small Business Development created a Reference Guide and Pocket Guide for International Protocols for Broward County.
  • Boosting the Success of the Broward Solar Co-op: Resilient Environment Division's program offers solar system installation at a bulk purchase discount with customer support.
  • Future Conditions Map Series: 100-Year Flood Elevation Map: This modeling effort accounted for projected sea level rise, increased precipitation, saturated soil conditions and land use changes to predict future flood conditions.
  • Southport Turning Notch Coral Relocation: Creation of five new cargo berths at Port Everglades with future cargo activity at full build-out.
  • Pack the Fun, Not the Gun – Safety First Campaign: A public awareness campaign to remind travelers it is illegal to enter a TSA passenger screening checkpoint at the airport with a weapon.
  • The BARC 23-Hour Triage Hold Bay: An innovative service to respond to capacity needs and reduce costs and dangers associated with lack of detox bed availability for County residents.
  • Animal Care Doghouse Program: Giving residents the basic help they need to properly care for their dog and to keep them home.
  • Document and Memorandum Manager (DMM): A robust web-based application that has a major impact on the way discipline is generated and tracked within the Broward County Transit.
  • Broward County Library's Response to COVID-19: Using Data to Make a Difference: By expanding digital resources, offering online programs and enhancing customer communications, Libraries was able to quickly adapt to a virtual model ensuring customers received seamless and efficient library services.
  • Content Value Capturing Program: A custom-tailored formal program for capturing and itemizing the value of contents located in more than 100 Broward County-owned structures.
  • Safety Twenty20: An online slip, trip, and fall prevention and awareness training program designed by Risk Management helps minimize incidents to County employees and its patrons.
  • No Sail Order Repatriation Plan: A coordinated plan to repatriate the passengers of Holland America Lines' ZAANDAM and ROTTERDAM cruise ships with the goal of not overburdening local resources.
