The Broward County Innovation Unit works with County agencies to anaylize and visualize data, establishing dashboards and reports that have helped inform the public while helping Broward County agencies to be better managed, more efficient, and more cost effective. The data analytics dashboards can be easy accessed, used and understood by those without a background in statistical analysis. Below is one such example set of dashboards followed by a list of additional projects/dashboards.
COVID Response Data Visualization Dashboards
The COVID-19 pandemic created extraordinary challenges for the health and social support systems of Broward County. Local governments, hospitals and health organizations needed to make effective decisions that were both preemptive and responsive to the quickly changing course of the pandemic. To accomplish this, a centralized source of critical information was needed. The Dynamic COVID Response Data Visualization Dashboards provided daily information that not only reflected the trends but also demonstrated the impacts and downstream effects of specific actions. These interactive tools permitted Broward County health organizations, local governments, and the public, to plan for, recover from, and adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Dynamic COVID Response Data Visualization program included multiple dashboards with information ranging from emergency health data (transmission rates, hospitalizations, and mortality) to emergency response (vaccinations and emergency assistance). These dashboards allowed for the identification of resource shortages within the emergency response and healthcare systems, allowing administrators the real time ability to modify messaging and protocols impacting hospital patients, vaccinations sites and the actions of the public. Overall, the program used data analytics to greatly enhance resource allocation, and communication (both within organizations and to the public), in addition to allowing a more diverse and inclusive outreach effort that substantially improved Broward County’s recovery from the physical, economic, and social impacts of COVID-19.

- Emergency Rental Assistance Program Dashboard: Tracks application processing and fund distribution for a federally funded program to cover the unmet rent and utility expenses of low-income households affected by the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Use Case for extracting data from scanned documents using Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML): Streamline and automate the licensing process by reducing the backlog, reducing the time to market, increasing productivity, increasing revenue, and leveraging advanced analytics capabilities. Finished not being used.
- Solar Together: Analyzes and reconciles energy usage and solar credits between FPL and Broward County.
