Natural Resources Division
Our Division's mission is to protect, restore, and enhance the quality, abundance, and diversity of the County's natural resources for Broward's residents, visitors, and ecosystems. We work to accomplish this through coordinated management efforts including research, planning, monitoring, project implementation, and outreach activities.
Our Programs
Air Program:
The Air Program is a state-approved local program that protects Broward's air quality. Our mission is to safeguard human health and the natural environment to enhance the quality of life within the county.
Environmental Lab:
The laboratory operates under strict national-accreditation standards to provide accurate and defensible environmental data required to monitor and protect the county’s natural resources. Our laboratory generates high-quality scientific analyses to assess water quality criteria, support regulatory compliance, and enforce environmental standards to safeguard the environment for all county residents.
Marine Resources:
The Marine Resources Section is dedicated to protecting Broward's beaches, coastal areas, and reefs which provide habitat for a variety of species including threatened or endangered corals, manatees, sea turtles, and dune vegetation. Our goal is to provide resource conservation and restoration through programs that align with state and federal agency efforts and standards to best manage and protect our natural resources. You can do your part by volunteering at the International Coastal Cleanup each September.
Sustainability Program:
The Sustainability Program creates and supports programs and policies that will make a more Sustainable Broward. For more information on PACE, visit the Sustainability Program webpage.
Water Conservation:
The Water Conservation Section provides overall coordination of countywide water conservation efforts such as Water Matters Day, the Conservation Pays Toilet Rebate Program, NatureScape Certification and Emerald Awards, NatureScape Irrigation Services and Rebate Program, and the Broward County Public Schools Environmental Stewardship Partnership.
