From the Desk of
County Commissioner Michael Udine
Community Outreach
On April 25th, I attended an Honor Flight presentation at the King’s Point Men’s Club. Honor Flight is an organization that provides our veterans the opportunity to visit the monuments built in their honor in Washington D.C. On this day, the opportunities were discussed with residents of King’s Point and Commission District 3.
During the month of May I will also be visiting the William “Bill” Kling VA Clinic in Sunrise to see how our veteran community is served by the agency, and to see where we can assist further with the services of our District 3 heroes.
District Issues
On April 21st, I visited Broward’s Office of Medical Examiner and Trauma Services after receiving information regarding the opiate crisis in Broward County and District 3. During my visit to the office, I was presented with the information on how District 3 has been affected. This crisis is one that affects both young and old in our community.
As your Commissioner, I believe we should create programs to support all ages to fight the start of addiction, and to provide the appropriate support to those in need. Currently, the Broward Addiction and Recovery Center (BARC) offers a range of services for those affected by substance abuse such as detoxification, overdose prevention, and education. If you need further information on the services of BARC for you or someone you know, please contact 954-357-4880.
Legislative Corner
This month, I was proud to represent District 3 in Tallahassee at the Florida Association of Counties Legislative Day, and trainings. During this time, I met with our local legislators and other leaders from across the state to talk about the priorities of Broward County and District 3.
In addition, I was asked to present to the Charter Review Commission in Broward regarding many items, and potential changes to the Charter that they are considering. The Charter Review was helpful to the Commission because it allowed our District’s voice be heard.
