County Receives Funds to Repair Homes in Municipal Services District
The County's Housing Finance and Community Redevelopment Division has been awarded $194,000 from the Florida Division of Emergency Management as part of the Hurricane Loss Mitigation Program to strengthen homes in the Broward Municipal Services District (BMSD). The program provides assistance for repairs to storm proof windows, doors, and roofs of homes that may be vulnerable to damage from severe weather including hurricanes.
The funding will be secured in the form of a no interest 60-month mortgage, requiring no repayment if program requirements are met. Owner occupancy for five years will be required.
This grant initiative is an outcome of collaboration among BMSD Internal Committee members which includes Emergency Management, Grants Administration, and Housing Finance and Community Redevelopment.
About Broward Municipal Services District:
The BMSD consists of 11.4 square miles with an estimated population of 14,759. The Board of County Commissioners is the governing body of the BMSD and the provider of its municipal services that include, but are not limited to, business development, building permitting and housing development, libraries and parks facilities, roadway maintenance, street enhancements, and zoning and code enforcement.
While funds are available, assistance is prioritized for those clients on the current waiting list of income eligible homeowners.
40 New Affordable Single Family Homes Coming to the Municipal Services District
Homes will be available for purchase to qualifying very-low to moderate income households through a lottery system.
The homes will be available for purchase through a lottery system to very-low to moderate income households who qualify for first mortgage financing with an approved lender and who will use the homes as their primary residence. The County may also provide purchase assistance for qualified buyers. All new buyers are required to attend homeowner education class and meet current Housing Finance and Community Redevelopment Division underwriting criteria for the home purchase and loans.
Applications will be available starting April 3, 2017 at Housing Finance and Community Redevelopment Division or on our website. The application period will be open until 12 Noon, June 30, 2017 and completed applications should be delivered in person to the Housing Finance and Community Redevelopment Division.
