Affordable Housing Information:

Assistance is Available to Purchase a New Home in Unincorporated Broward County
(2005 CDBG/DRI Replacement Housing Program)

Broward County experienced loss of housing stock due to Hurricane Wilma. Therefore, the County is dedicating funds from the Disaster Recovery Initiatives grant funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) to replace part of the lost housing. Under this program 16 new homes will be constructed in the unincorporated Central County areas of Roosevelt Gardens and Washington Park and will be available for sale to income eligible buyers. One home will be ADA compliant (eligibility requirements must be met). For additional information, please click here.

Mortgage Credit Certificate Program To Provide Tax Relief To Qualified Homebuyers

The Housing Finance Authority of Broward County has launched a 2012 Mortgage Credit Certificate Program to help reduce home loan financing costs for qualified homeowners in Broward County. The program entitles qualified applicants to a federal income tax credit in an amount of up to $2,000 annually. This enables qualified owners or buyers, who owe federal income taxes, to benefit from a dollar-for-dollar reduction of their tax bills. Additionally the homeowner will continue to receive the tax credit each year they continue to live in the home financed under the program.

Making Home Affordable logoMaking Home Affordable

A joint effort of the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) launched a new Web site for consumers seeking information about the Obama Administration's Making Home Affordable loan modification and refinancing program. MakingHomeAffordable.gov features interactive self-assessment tools that will empower borrowers to determine if they are eligible to participate and helps them calculate the monthly mortgage payment reductions they could stand to realize under the Making Home Affordable program. The program will offer assistance to as many as 7 to 9 million homeowners making a good-faith effort to make their mortgage payments, while attempting to prevent the destructive impact of the housing crisis on families and communities. More...
