Statement from Commissioner Udine

Michael UdineNo one should ever have to step foot in the building where Wednesday’s massacre took place.  Today, I call on Governor Rick Scott, the Florida Senate, and the Florida House of Representatives to step up to the plate!  Fund the initiative to tear down and replace the existing classroom building where the shooting occurred on February 14th, 2018. All administrators, teachers, current and future students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School should not be forced to relive this tragedy every day.  No child or staff member should ever have to step foot into that building PERIOD.  In addition, funds for a memorial should be appropriated in memory of those who have perished.  These innocent lives will never be forgotten, and the state should make all efforts to accomplish this expeditiously this legislative session. I believe that this is necessary for the healing of our community.

Sincerely,

Michael Udine signature
