Broward County regulates the storage of hazardous materials in above ground and under ground storage tanks. Storage tanks regulated under Chapter 27, Article X, Storage Tanks, Broward County Code of Ordinances, have capacities greater than 550 gallons if they are above ground and greater than 110 gallons if they are underground. Tanks of smaller volumes are regulated under the Hazardous Material regulations.
Chapter 27, Article X, Storage Tanks, manages the inspection and licensing of businesses which have storage tanks on their property to prevent contamination of our groundwater. Broward County Launches Online Licensing for Storage Tanks
Storage Tank customers can now submit applications for new storage tank facilities or modifications to currently licensed facilities. Access ePermits at any time to submit applications, upload documents and pay fees. Review the Fee Schedule for category and fee.
Storage Tank Construction, Closure and Modification Requirements
A Broward County Storage Tank Facility License
is required prior to building, erecting, operating, modifying, closing or
replacing in whole or in part any storage tank system that is intended to store

Assisted Living Facilities and Nursing Homes
Recent Legislation requiring Emergency Power Generators at
all Florida Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities (ALFs) was signed into State
Law by Florida’s Governor Rick Scott on March 26, 2018. See the ALFs and Nursing Homes State Law Requirements bulletin for further details regarding the law and required State, County and

Broward County Eliminates Stage II Vapor Recovery Controls
On February 26, 2013, the Broward County Board of County Commissioners approved the proposed changes to Chapter 27, Article X, Storage Tanks, of the Broward County Code of Ordinances which eliminates the requirement for Stage II Vapor Recovery Systems in Broward County.
