Children's BookFest - Summer Learning Program Kick Off

The 20th Annual Children’s BookFest is the perfect way to celebrate the start of Broward County Library's Summer Learning Program. Our fun filled day will feature workshops, presentations, and the kickoff to Summer Fun - Color Our World! Register for a summer reading challenge, enter to win great prizes, and pick up your free book (while supplies last).

Schedule:​

  • 10AM-3PM Young At Art Museum’s Open Studio (READ Room), Hands-on art experiences inspired by Yayoi Kusama and her love of dots to visitors of all ages.
  • 10AM-2PM Musical Petting Zoo Adventure (The Hub), Explore a variety of traditional Andean musical instruments plus make your own musical instrument while supplies last.
  • 10:30AM Miss Tracy Sings (Children’s Area), Sing along with Miss Tracy! Early childhood music specialist Tracy Kahn will delight babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.

  • 11AM Watercolor Workshop for Teens and Adults (Meeting Room – Second Floor), Create your watercolor masterpiece.
  • 11AM Aunty Nadine and Friends presents “Donkey Seh": a Jamaican Folklore performance (Multipurpose Room), The story comes to life with puppets and props, and the characters join in music, song and dance. Opening act: The Ring Ding Kids

  • 12PM Coral Springs Chinese Cultural Association presents Chinese Lion Dance Team (Multipurpose Room)
  • 12PM Origami with Wishing Crane Project (Teen Area)
  • 12:30PM Capo Capoeira (Multipurpose Room), Enter the dynamic world of the Brazilian martial art of capoeira, which incorporates kicks, fluid movements, acrobatics, and music.

  • 1PM Graffiti Workshop for Teens and Adults: (Meeting Room – Second Floor), Learn the fundamentals of graffiti lettering styles and character design, from bold bubble letters to wild-style fonts and expressive graffiti characters.
  • 1:30PM Spotlights (Children’s Area), Enjoy a music break with the Broward Center Spotlights, a youth vocal ensemble. 
  • 1:30PM Stilt Dancing (Multipurpose Room), Step into the enchanting world of stilt dancing, an art form from West Africa with the USVI Mocko Jumbie Stilt Dancers.

  • 2:30PM Mad Science of Palm Beach presents Fire and Ice (Multipurpose Room), Join us for a spectacular show that thrills guests of all ages with exciting experiments and a little help from you. Enjoy foggy dry ice storms and giant beach balls. Be amazed by sizzling, shivering scissors and special bubbly showers!

  • 10AM-1PM Plantation Fire Department Paint the Fire Truck (Outside)
  • 10AM-3PM Summer Learning Program at Your Library (Audiovisual Area), Register for Summer Reading Challenges! Get a free book and free Kona Ice coupon! (while supplies last)
  • 10AM-2PM Face Painting (Teen Area)​

 Throughout event: 
  • Color Our World Scramble Game (Information Desk), Pick up your game card, visit selected locations and guess the word for a chance to win a prize basket.
  • Creation Station (Stair Area), Citizen Science Kits & Virtual Reality
