Information on Lost or Found Pets
Finding your Lost Pet
Time is essential when trying to find your lost pet, especially if your pet is not wearing a Broward County Rabies Registration Tag or has no tattoo or microchip containing identification information. Broward County Animal Care is required to hold lost pets with identification for five (5) days (not including holidays and when the shelter is closed) and animals without identification for three (3) days, hoping they can be reunited with their owners.
Animal Care recommends you immediately take these three steps to maximize your chances of reuniting with your pet. Report a lost pet and view found pets on:

PLEASE NOTE: We will always attempt to contact you if your dog or cat arrives at our Adoption Center with identification such as a Broward County Rabies Registration Tag, tattoo, microchip, or ID tag. However, it remains the owner's responsibility to contact us and actively search for their lost pet.
Reporting a Found Pet
If you find a lost dog or cat, there are many ways you can help reunite the pet with its owner:
- Contact the owner listed on the ID tag.
- Have the pet scanned for a microchip at a local veterinary clinic.
- Contact Broward County Animal Care by calling 954-359-1313 or emailing ACADFoundPets@broward.org for pets with a Broward County Registration Tag, tattoo, or microchip.
Please report found pets to ACADFoundPets@broward.org. You can also report found pets through Petco Love Lost and 24Petconnect: Lost, Found and Adoptable Animals.
Reporting a Found Pet Without ID
While it is more difficult to reunite a lost pet with its owner when it has no identification, there are still things you can do to help:
- Email ACADFoundPets@broward.org to report the found pet.
- Report the pet through Petco Love Lost and 24Petconnect: Lost, Found, and Adoptable Animals.
