Ron Gardner Aircraft Observation Area Closing for Construction

Parking Garage Exit Plaza Detour

• Project Work Location: Parking garage exit plaza between Palm and Hibiscus garages.
• Project Work Hours: Monday, May 13, 2019, from 1:00 am – 5:00 am.
• Work Performed: Contractor will be core drilling on the upper-level roadway that requires the toll plaza exit lane below to be closed. Traffic will be rerouted through the adjacent emergency exit lane.

Perimeter Road Catch Basin Cleaning Work

• Project Work Location: East Perimeter Road south of the cell phone lot.

Broward County and FLL Welcome Sign Demolition

• Project Work Location: Rental Car Center, easternmost wall, upper level 
• Project Work Hours: Tuesday, May 14th at 6:00 p.m. to Saturday, May 18th 4:00 a.m., and Monday, May 20th at 7:00 a.m. to Tuesday, May 28th at 5:00 p.m.
• Work Performed: Contractor will be demolishing and removing the existing logo signs during the first week. The week of May 20th and prepare work for the new sign that will be installed at a later date.
• The work zone will be barricaded 24 hours a day and a Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) will be in place.

LOWER LEVEL CROSSWALK SIGNALIZATION 

• Project Location: Terminal 4, lower level.

• Project Work Location: Terminal crosswalk and adjacent sidewalk.

• Project Work Hours: Monday, May 13, 2019, from 11:00 p.m. through Friday, May 31, 2019, at 9:00 a.m.
• Work Performed: Contractor will be extending the crosswalk footprint. The construction work area will remain closed 24 hours per day. The vestibule doorway adjacent to the crosswalk will remain closed, except for emergency evacuations. The vestibule elevator adjacent to the crosswalk will remain open at all times. Forty-seven percent (47%) of the Terminal curb frontage will be closed for the duration of the project.  The remaining Terminal curb frontage will be available for guest active loading only.

Feeding of Wildlife on Airport Property

FLL 2019-40

  • Feeding wildlife is a violation of the Broward County ordinance and is subject to a fine.  Initial violation of the ordinance is subject to a $250 fine and repeat violations are subject to a $500 fine.  
  • Section 2-38(k) of the Broward County Code of Ordinances prohibits feeding feral cats and other wildlife on airport property 
  • The feeding of wildlife on Airport property is also a safety and health concern

Cell Phone Waiting Lot Reduced Parking

Work Performed: Contractor will be performing maintenance on the drainage pipes. 

Cell Phone Waiting Parking Lot: This area will be reduced by approximately 12 spots during working hours and one (1) to two (2) spots during non-working hours. The lot will not be impacted during the weekends.

Lower-Level Crosswalk Signalization 
Issued: April 19, 2019

Project Location: Terminal 2, lower level.

Project Work Location: (Phase Six)Terminal Drive crosswalk and the lower-level sidewalk adjacent to the western vestibule doorway. Details on subsequent phases will be provided as the project progresses. 

Project Work Hours: Monday, April 22, 2019 – Friday,  May 10, 2019. 11PM-9AM.

Work Performed: Contractor will be installing components of the signalization and extending the crosswalk footprint. The construction work area will remain closed 24 hours per day. The doorway adjacent to the crosswalk will remain closed, except for emergency evacuations. The elevator adjacent to the crosswalk will remain open at all times. Fifty-eight percent (58%) of the Terminal curb frontage will be closed for the duration of the project.  The remaining Terminal curb frontage will be available for guest active loading only. 

A Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) will be in place for all roadway lane closures.

North Perimeter Road (SW 34th Street) - Florida Power & Light Utility Work

Project Location: North Perimeter Road.

Project Work Location: North Perimeter Road, between SW 9th Avenue and SW 11th Avenue, north of Federal Express Sort Facility. 

Project Work Hours: Tuesday, April 23, 2019 - Wednesday, April 24, 2019, from 10PM to 4AM. 

Work Performed: Edison Power Contractors, on behalf of Florida Power & Light, will install a single 55’ concrete utility pole on the north side of North Perimeter Road. The north lane of North Perimeter Road will be closed during this installation. A Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) will be in place and traffic will be controlled by flaggers.

 Terminal Roadway Lower-Level Lane Closure

Work Performed: Overhead Girders “beams” will be scanned from the travel lane closest to the Garage. Earlier lane closures can only be authorized by Broward County Aviation Department, Operations.

Dolphins Cycling Challenge

Event date:  Saturday, April 6, 2019, from 9AM – 12PM.
Activity:  Cyclists will be traveling SW 30th Avenue, east on SW 42nd Street to Boaters Park, over the I-95 bridge (Rogge Bridge), onto Perimeter Road and exiting the Airport on SW 4th Avenue.
Advisory: Vehicles traveling along this route will experience minimal traffic delays.  Please use caution.

Lower-Level Crosswalk Signalization

Project Work Location: Phase Five: Lower Level Terminal Roadway. Details on subsequent phases will be provided as the project progresses.

Project Work Hours: Monday, April 1, 2019 – Friday, April 12, 2019. 10PM-6AM.

Work Performed: Contractor will be installing advance warning signal pole and signage, lower-level above one traffic lane and in the drop-off terminal area, prior to the crosswalks at Terminal 2, 3 and 4. Construction will not impact pedestrian movement on the curbside sidewalks. 

Earlier lane closures can be authorized by the BCAD Operations Duty Supervisor if he/she determines that it will not have a detrimental impact on traffic flow. A Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) will be in place for all roadway lane closures.

Terminal Roadway Lane Closure

Project Location: Terminal Drive, upper and lower level.

Project Work Location: Terminal Roadway starting at the midpoint between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 to Terminal 4 exit.  A rolling maintenance of traffic (MOT) will be in place with flaggers and a law enforcement vehicle will be on-site for the duration of the operation.  

Project Work Hours: Friday, March 22, 2019, through Sunday, April 7, 2019.  10PM To 5AM. 

Work Performed: Involves core drilling and spalling maintenance. If traffic increases, work will pause to allow traffic to dissipate. Earlier lane closures can
only be authorized by Broward County Aviation Department, Operations.

 Sheltair Aviation Building/Hangar Metal Wall and Roof Panels Replacement

 Terminal Roadway Arrivals/Departures Level Maximum Clearance Height Restrictions

• This clearance applies to the entire Terminal Roadway width

• GTA-3: The Airport inter-terminal loop shuttle will relocate from the inside middle island to the outermost curb. Ride-sharing will utilize the inside middle island for guest pick-up associated with Terminals 3 and 4

Relocation of Ride-Sharing Pick-Up Locations

    o Located on the inner curb of the Ground Transportation Areas (GTAs) between Terminals 1 & 2 and 3 & 4
    o Designated pick-up locations are depicted on the above map.
