NATURE OF WORK
This is manual work in a rental horse stable and farm animal exhibit at a county regional park.
Work involves performing a variety of manual tasks including cleaning out stables, carrying hay, feed, and water, and grooming and tacking horses. Work involves an accomplished rider to guide group trail rides and effectively communicate with the general public. Work also involves care and maintenance of farm animals and immediate area. Work is usually performed under immediate supervision. Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Operates pony ring.
Cleans stables and stable area.
Grooms and tacks horses
Grooms, feeds and maintains farm animals.
Carries hay, feed, and water.
Guides trail rides of horses.
Assists in maintenance of health records of horses.
Cleans and maintains tack and equipment.
Attends to the public in farm area.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
Ability to work with and around horses and farm animals.
Ability to ride a horse.
Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
Ability to perform manual tasks.
Ability to properly walk, trot, and canter a horse.
Ability to maintain control of their horse while assisting other riders.
Ability to effectively communicate and explain basic riding skills, and the history and care of the farm animals and horses.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and
appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Completion of the tenth grade; some experience in horsemanship and the care of farm animals and horses; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
