NATURE OF WORK
This is semi-skilled work in servicing automotive and related equipment.
Work involves the routine servicing of automobiles, trucks, tractors, and other standard and special equipment operated by the County. Duties are confined principally to non-mechanical work such as tire repairs, lubrications, refueling, and cleaning of equipment. Work is performed under direct supervision.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Changes and repairs tires of varying sizes on both light and heavy equipment; answers emergency service calls for gasoline or tire repairs.
Works at vehicle refueling area; operates fuel pumps; checks oil and water, tires, and batteries; cleans windows.
Sweeps out, washes, and waxes vehicles; maintains service area in proper order.
Works at lubrication rack to change oil and oil filters; greases vehicles.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Some knowledge of the basic characteristics of equipment.
Ability to learn servicing and tire repair procedures within a reasonable training period.
Ability to follow oral instructions.
Ability to prepare accurate and comprehensive case histories.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.
Skill in the use of servicing equipment and tire repair tools.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school; six (6) years experience in servicing automotive equipment; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Possession of a valid drivers licence.
