GFLCVB PRESIDENT

NATURE OF WORK

This is highly responsible supervisory and administrative work in charge of the overall promotional duties of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Work involves overall responsibility for development and execution of the annual national and regional marketing plan to promote the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County area as an attractive destination for conventions and the leisure traveler. Position incumbent represents local and national tourism and convention industries while overseeing all marketing, sales and public relations activities. Supervision is exercised over subordinate supervisors. Work is performed independently with general oversight by an administrative superior. Performance is reviewed periodically for attainment of organizational goals and objectives.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Plans, develops and administers a comprehensive marketing strategy for the Greater Fort Lauderdale area; interfaces with local hospitality industry and represents destination at the regional, national and international level; communicates with local and national convention and tourism industries.

Plans and directs the activities of professional marketing, sales, and public relations staff; supervises the negotiation and administration of marketing and advertising contracts; supervises field marketing and sales representatives.

Prepares and monitors division budget, including annual advertising and public relations budgets.

Attends and represents county at meetings, conferences and trade shows; prepares agendas for board meetings; serves as newspaper and television spokesperson for destination.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of marketing, sales and public relations.

Thorough knowledge of the tourism and convention industries.

Considerable knowledge of the principles of supervision, organization and administration.

Considerable knowledge of budget preparation and administration.

Ability to plan, direct and supervise division operations and activities.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in marketing or business administration; thorough experience in tourism or convention marketing work including considerable experience in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
