TECHNICAL TRAINER I

NATURE OF WORK

This is professional, technical and administrative work in the planning, development, design, implementation and delivery of multimedia and technical training programs. Work involves responsibility for planning and administering training programs for technical data processing and non-technical personnel. Incumbent develops, implements and delivers a wide variety of training to a variety of audiences, and arranges for courses and instructional and educational materials; maintains training records and summaries of course evaluations by personnel attending courses. Work is performed independently with review through student feedback, conferences, reports and objectives of results obtained.



ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Instructs a variety of audiences on various new and revised PC software applications.

Designs, develops, maintains and evaluates technical training courses.

Develops all course content including handouts, handbooks and media for courses.

Maintains training labs including equipment (hardware, software, office equipment), course documents, lab supplies and general lab facilities.

Ensures sufficient quantities of materials are on hand, equipment is in good repair and facilities are conducive to successful learning.

Maintains computer-based training programs and video set up. Evaluates and recommends programs; builds library of training programs; works with vendors on new or adapted training programs and media.

Evaluates the needs of employees and recommends courses necessary for meeting those needs.

Resolves assigned user/client problems and supports users over the phone and on-site in use of their computer applications.

Installs/de-installs software where and when required.

Performs related work as required.





KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Thorough knowledge of general adult education theories and principles.

Thorough knowledge of current technical methods and practices in adult education.

Thorough knowledge of local educational resources and sources of available published information useful in development of training programs.

Considerable knowledge of computer hardware and software applications.

Considerable knowledge of departmental organization and operations in relation to requirements for effective training.

Ability to develop, compile and analyze course outlines, lesson plans and training aids suitable for varied department programs.

Ability to counsel and advise employees concerning training and educational requirements for career growth and progressions, job performance improvement and related purposes.

Ability to present a variety of classroom instruction and discussion sessions including a variety of media.

Ability to prepare complete narrative and statistical instructions.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.



REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in education, computer science or related field; two (2) years experience as a technical instructor; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
