REHABILITATION THERAPIST SUPERVISOR

NATURE OF WORK

 

This is professional and supervisory work in developing and implementing therapeutic recreational programs for patients or clients in county behavioral health programs.

 

Work involves planning a variety of recreational and special programs designed to meet the rehabilitative and therapeutic needs of patients or clients in behavioral health programs or treatment facilities.

 

Work involves developing and modifying therapy treatment plans and evaluating patient or client participation and progress. Work is performed under the general supervision of a unit coordinator and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and achievement of therapeutic objectives.

 

 

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS      

(May vary slightly based on area of assignment).

 

Supervises and schedules the work of staff providing rehabilitation therapy which may include registered nurses, mental health specialists, behavioral health aides, etc.; monitors therapeutic activities for quality and proper content.

 

Participates as a treatment team member; consults with physicians, program directors, unit coordinators, and other staff regarding the development and selection of therapeutic recreation and special activities and treatment plan goals and objectives.

 

Serves as liaison with other behavioral health care providers, e.g., for special district and regional programs and activities.

 

Provides in-service education, staff orientation, and training in therapeutic recreation.

 

Attends regularly scheduled meetings related to patients progress and activities.

 

Prepares reports and records using computer-based applications.

 

Performs related work as required.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

 

Considerable knowledge of fundamental theory, principles, techniques, supplies, and related equipment utilized in recreational therapy.

 

Considerable knowledge of recreational programming and administration.

 

Considerable knowledge of rehabilitative objectives in the treatment and motivation of patients.

 

Ability to deal effectively with other members of the professional staff in assessing and evaluating treatment.

 

Ability to train and educate support staff for therapeutic group implementation.

 

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of BrowardCounty's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

 

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, regardless of race, color, ethnicity, religion, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, or political affiliation.

 

Skill in the use of recreation therapeutic equipment.

 

Skill in the use of basic computer-based office applications.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

 

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation therapy, physical or vocational education, or other field closely related to the area of assignment; four (4) of years experience in rehabilitation or recreation therapy including two (2) years of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
