DATA AIDE I

NATURE OF WORK

This is limited technical work of an engineering or planning nature.

Work involves responsibility for participating in the collection and presentation of field data, making mathematical calculations, and routine office or field work associated with engineering or planning related studies. Assignments may involve varying amounts of physical labor in their accomplishment. A technical or professional superior provides supervision and reviews work for accuracy and compliance with desired results.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Gathers engineering and planning field data of a routine nature; performs miscellaneous office tasks in support of technical activities.

May participate in traffic studies such as manual traffic counts, daily studies, and control device observances; compiles and records findings; prepares graphs and statistical summaries; makes rough sketches of traffic intersections and street channelizations.

Maintains files and records of completed plans and documents; operates engineering duplication equipment.

Operates digitizer, key punch, calculator, and computer.

May participate in environmental field studies and site observations.

May interact with the public and field inquiries regarding environmental programs.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Some knowledge of the basic principles and concepts of public planning.

Some knowledge of mathematics through trigonometry.

Ability to make standard engineering computations accurately.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to engage in active field work for extended periods and occasionally under adverse weather conditions, when required by the nature of assignments.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Successful completion of job related tests.
