MICROGRAPHICS TECHNICIAN III

NATURE OF WORK

This is skilled work in the operation of micrographic equipment for the purpose of recording, scanning, filming, storing and retrieving legal documents and records.

Employees in this classification coordinate micrographics work requiring specialized equipment and techniques in the reproduction of official records and legal instruments. Duties include acting as lead worker for a group of technical employees who perform micrographic duties utilizing microfilm cameras, scanners, optical jukeboxes, microfilm readers, developers and other micrographic equipment. Responsibilities require the exercise of independent judgement on technical matters pertaining to the preparation and miniaturization of documents and the operation and maintenance of related equipment. Work is reviewed by an administrative superior for timely completion of work and customer service efficiency.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This classification is distinguished from the Micrographics Technician II classification by the greater experience required, increased complexity of work and by the lead worker responsibilities.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Participates in the operation of microfilm cameras, readers, printers, and film processors; establishes and implements operating procedures for equipment, recording, processor, and recall systems.

Determines method of reproduction; assists with scheduling work flow.

Plans and develops special microfilm projects with an administrative superior; advises on equipment requirements and related records management procedures.

Calculates job costs for various types of reproduction techniques, materials and quantities.

Performs all duties in general compliance with policies, procedures and rules.

Supervises the cleaning, oiling, and adjusting of micrographics equipment; recommends the servicing, repair and replacement of equipment; performs minor repairs and maintenance procedures on micrographics equipment; recommends equipment requirements and related records management procedures.

Trains other work group members in the proper utilization of equipment.

Acts as lead worker over subordinate personnel.

Types forms, memoranda, reports and form letters with designated or standard information.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS



Considerable knowledge of microfilm recording, reproduction and retrieval techniques.

Considerable knowledge of the operating principles and maintenance needs of microfilm machines, readers, duplicators, film processors, and related photo duplicating equipment.

Considerable knowledge of developing solutions and techniques used in microfilm, photochemical and photostatic reproduction processes.

Knowledge of various types of government records reproduced in a records management program.

Ability to determine the filming characteristics of a variety of records and legal instruments.

Ability to use a personal computer for work processing and other tasks.

Ability to maintain records and to prepare reports.

Ability to make minor maintenance repairs on equipment used.

Ability to perform assigned tasks in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations and established policies.

Ability to function as lead worker for a group of subordinate personnel.

Ability to use good judgement in the application of procedures and regulations.

Ability to express ideas clearly and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to deal with people in a tactful and effective manner.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.

Skill in the operation of micrographics equipment.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Graduation from high school; four (4) years experience in the operation of microfilm, photochemical, photostatic, and optical scanning equipment and storage devices, or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
