NATURE OF WORK
This is supervisory security enforcement work in a county facility.
Work involves responsibility for enforcing strict security regulations. Duties require the exercise of prompt judgment in coping with problems of the public and staff by inspection of work in progress. Work is reviewed by a superior through periodic inspection of operations and conferences on policy and procedural changes.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Performs as assistant officer in command; assigns officers, inspects security on all floors.
Takes command of strategic locations in emergencies such as front and rear lobby areas; monitors all movement through these areas during emergencies and supervises security for the specified area.
Supervises all operations and regulations for a total shift in a facility; assigns staff and inspects activities.
Supervises support services such as employee training and personnel administration.
Investigates complaints, initiates reports on specified activities, and schedules staff throughout the facilities as needed.
Recommends necessary changes in procedures for ensuring security, enforcing regulations and maintaining order in all operations on the assigned shifts.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Considerable knowledge of the policies, regulations and procedures for government buildings and facilities.
Considerable knowledge of the required record keeping activities.
Ability to enforce regulations with firmness and impartiality.
Ability to supervise subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
Ability to maintain accurate records and to submit concise reports.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school; four (4) years supervisory experience in security work; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
