NATURE OF WORK
This is sub-professional technical work supervising facility usage after hours and delivering horticulture and pest control information to residents of Broward County.
Work involves assisting community groups utilizing the facility, responding to consumer questions regarding horticultural disease and insect problems based on current agricultural research information. Employees in this class receive technical and professional supervision.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Supervises citizen groups utilizing building facility after hours.
Maintains security of county property.
Provides information to homeowners on plant culture, disease and pest problems.
Identifies plant and household pests for homeowners.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of ornamental and flowering plants recommended for South Florida.
Knowledge of plant disease and insect pests, as well as chemicals and other control methods.
Ability to assist individuals and groups in a courteous and informative manner.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relations with groups utilizing facility.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials, and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, color, religion, age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, marital status or political affiliation.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school supplemented by Master Gardener training, college level course work in horticulture or related field; two (2) years experience in horticultural work; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
