ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF FLEET SERVICES

NATURE OF WORK

This is specialized administrative work assisting the Division Director in all management and operational functions of the Division.

Work involves the administration and implementation of directives and programs for the Division dealing with operations, personnel, purchasing, safety, training and related functions. Duties include development of long range plans and programs, determination of compliance with current directives, and facility planning and programming. Work is reviewed by superior through frequent conferences and by observation of results.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Plans, assigns and supervises the work of the administrative, clerical and maintenance personnel of the Fleet Services Division.

Assists the Director in developing and directing the equipment related operational programs of the Division.

Develops and monitors internal procedures and management systems for control and utilization of county equipment.

Implements management studies; makes budget and policy recommendations to the Division Director; coordinates the usage of the intergovernmental vehicle rental fleet.

Works with the Fleet Management Superintendent to insure effective and efficient management of the County's mobile equipment fleet; coordinates the acquisition, transfer, and disposal of motor vehicles; insures the proper accountability of motor vehicles, and the managing of the County Government's motor fuel allocation program.

Serves as acting director in absence of the director.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Thorough knowledge of the practices of automotive equipment management, knowledge of budgeting, purchasing, personnel management and management information systems.

Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and written.

Ability to supervise and appraise the work of subordinates.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in public or business administration; thorough experience in equipment and maintenance management; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
