DEVELOPMENT REVIEW COORDINATOR

NATURE OF WORK

This is advanced professional administrative work coordinating, reviewing and improving the activities of the development review process.

Incumbent assists senior level management with program and policy development and is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of policy and procedure changes which may affect agencies within and outside of County government. Work involves substantial interaction with clients, companies and their agents who are participating in the review process. The employee in this class serves as a liaison between the Development Management Division and all agencies involved in the development review process. Work is performed with considerable independence and initiative under the direction of an administrative supervisor. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports and program achievements.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Initiates, solicits, designs and implements activities which are intended to streamline the development review process.

Guides applicants for affordable housing projects, and other applicants as directed, through the development review process.

Resolves discrepancies and conflicts among agencies within the development review process.

Facilitates cross-training opportunities among staff members of agencies within the development review process.

Informs the public concerning the development review process via written materials and oral presentations.

Assists or substitutes for other staff members of the Development Review Section, as directed.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Considerable knowledge of development review principles and practices.

Considerable knowledge of the functions and relationships of local and regional government agencies.

Considerable knowledge of sources of information, current literature and recent developments regarding urban planning.

Ability to initiate and develop programs and policies.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to manage multiple projects with multiple priorities.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

A Master's Degree in urban planning or related field; considerable experience in development review; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
