NATURE OF WORK
This is professional work involving in‑depth individual, group, or family counseling under clinical supervision.
Work involves application of a variety of diagnostic and counseling techniques within established policies and procedures. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports and observation of work results.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS Some tasks may vary slightly based on area of assignment.
Interviews and evaluates the needs of consumers and develops a treatment plan; conducts ongoing individual, group and/or family counseling sessions.
Prepares more complex cases for review at case evaluation meetings; verbally interprets all data gathered and makes recommendations concerning more complex cases.
Prepares progress notes, reports, and correspondence on assigned consumers for review. Maintains case records. Uses basic computer-based office applications.
Provides basic education, support, and linkage to consumers as appropriate.
Attends staff meetings and scheduled training sessions.
May coordinate clients' involvement in judicial system to insure clients have an understanding of the legal process and provide support during process through attendance at depositions, hearings and trials as required by the area of assignment.
May provide deposition and court testimony if required for area of assignment.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS May vary based on area of assignment.
Knowledge of psychological concepts of human behavior and development.
Knowledge of normal psychological theory to conduct individual, group, and family therapy sessions with supervision.
Knowledge of social casework and crisis intervention methods, their techniques and application.
Some knowledge of judicial system process and laws as it relates to specific areas of sexual battery as required for area of assignment.
Some knowledge of child abuse and/or neglect and sexual assault as required for area of assignment.
Some knowledge of public health laws and state regulations (65D-30) applicable to the area of assignment, JCAHO standards, and federal confidentiality laws (42CFR, 45CFR).
Skill in individual counseling as appropriate to area of assignment.
Skill in family counseling as appropriate to the area of assignment.
Skill in play therapy as appropriate to the area of assignment.
Ability to establish rapport with clients under adverse conditions and to conduct confidential interviews with mature judgment.
Ability to secure psychological or psychiatric case information from persons interviewed and from medical or psychiatric sources.
Ability to properly interpret psychological or psychiatric information properly and make sound recommendations.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
Ability to prepare accurate and comprehensive case histories using computer-based applications.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of BrowardCounty's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, regardless of race, color, religion, age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, or political affiliation.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, guidance and counseling, social work, or other field closely related to this assignment; six (6) months experience in professional counseling; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
Depending upon area of assignment, may require possession of a valid Florida driver’s license and the ability to drive and to obtain and maintain authorization to drive on County business.
