NATURE OF WORK
This is skilled technical work to provide drafting and clerical assistance in the Port Everglades Construction Management and Planning Division.
Work involves responsibility for performing moderately complex to difficult drafting of an engineering, planning or project management nature, including mathematical computations associated with drafting. Work requires the application of knowledge of a limited technical area of engineering, planning, construction management or a related field. Work involves the use of computer aided drafting software, standard mechanical drawing instruments, office machines and legal descriptions necessary for the preparation of various graphic materials. Work is assigned by a technical/ professional supervisor and may consist of oral or written instruction. Assignments are reviewed for technical accuracy while in progress and upon completion.
Provides drafting and support services for the Construction Management and Planning Division including CADD work, filing, word processing, and computer data input.
Answers, screens, and routes telephone calls to proper staff members.
Assists the Construction Management and Planning Division in the preparation of architectural/engineering and survey layout drawings manually and with the aid of computerized drafting equipment; prepares preliminary and final plans for construction projects.
Operates and maintains Port blueprint/photocopy machines.
Assists in the preparation and periodic updates for the master plan of Port facilities and utilities as directed.
Prepares visual aids for use by all divisions including pictorial sketches, charts, and graphs in both ink and colored media.
Prepares purchase requisitions for drafting equipment and supplies.
Assists in field survey work and soundings when required; participates in the inspection of construction on small projects when required.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of the standard terminology, techniques and practices of drafting.
Knowledge of the basic principles and concepts of public planning, engineering or construction management.
Knowledge of mathematics including algebra, trigonometry and plane geometry.
Knowledge of drafting and design nomenclature and symbols.
Some knowledge of computer assisted drafting and design.
Ability to prepare moderately complex to complex engineering drawings neatly and accurately.
Ability to perform office support functions such as answering telephones, filing, data input and photocopying.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and sketches.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.
Skill in the use and care of mechanical drawing instruments, computers and related equipment.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification supplemented by course work in mechanical and computer assisted drafting; three (3) years experience with the principles, practices, techniques and instruments of surveying and engineering drafting and design and two (2) years experience in general office procedures to include the operation of calculators, typewriters and word processors or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience. Must possess a valid Florida driver's license at time of appointment.
