Safe Routes Broward Mobile App

The Healthy Community Zone designation within Central County resulted in an initiative with United Health Partnerships to utilize mobile devices as tools to build community capacity to help resolve non-emergency public safety issues. The County Commission extended the service period for the Broward Municipal Services District’s Safe Routes Broward Mobile App, enabling residents and visitors to Central County and Broadview Park to report issues in real-time, such as damage to infrastructure, blighted conditions on public property and other non-emergency issues that hinder safe travel through the community, and independently track progress to resolution. Download the App for free from Apple and Android App stores today!

New Pocket Park for Broadview Park

The Broadview Park Pocket Park is nearly complete. Planning and Development Management and Parks and Recreation division staff collaborated with Broadview Park community leaders to design plans that transformed an underutilized parcel of land into tranquil community walking paths surrounded by attractive landscape. The pocket park provides a new place for outdoor fitness and family recreation in the Broadview Park neighborhood. On December 5, 2017, the County Commission approved the renaming of the pocket park to “Washburn Park” in response to a request from the Broadview Park Civic Association, in memory of Jack and Jan Washburn, who co-founded the neighborhood civic association. Plans for the park dedication and official ribbon cutting ceremony are underway. Investment: $470,000

Neighborhood Parks’ Programs

Broward Municipal Services District parks provide direct services to residents and the community-at-large. By providing on-site programs designed to strengthen families, the parks are a resourceful asset in the community. Programs like the Hot Supper Program, Little Libraries and the Teen Club provide pathways to solutions. The Hot Supper Program combats hunger among neighborhood children and guarantees that every child participating in BMSD Neighborhood Parks’ programs will have access to a hot meal before leaving the park. Extensive collaborations with community partners produce programs and community events that heighten awareness about abuse and social responsibility and where to get help. Professional guidance and counseling workshops such as the Parent Camps facilitate greater understanding of how to improve academic performance and achieve good health.
