Awards & Recognition Highlights 

National Association of County Information Officers (NACIO)​

Broward County has topped the nation when it comes to the quality of its public information and public education outreach campaigns with 24 NACIO Awards of Excellence in the 2023 competition - more than any other county in the nation.

Seven Best in Class Awards

  • Kitten C​are Program is an interactive experience bringing dozens of kittens to Broward County libraries to interact with children, teachers and families to encourage kitten fostering and adoptions. - Animal Care
  • Late Shift Connect Program subsidizes rides for late-shift commuters who are not able to utilize bus service during the late night or early morning hours. - Broward County Transit
  • South Florida Cultural Consortium Exhibition Catalogue “New Art: South Florida" showcases the artistic achievements of 13 preeminent South Florida artists and celebrates the diverse range of creative talents and provides an opportunity for the artists to gain exposure and recognition for their work. - Cultural Division

  • Dania Beach Public Art Plan outlines goals and objectives based on themes emerging from public input collected through outreach activities, giving the community access to the arts. - Cultural Division
  • Wonder of the Seas Arrival Campaign brought recognition to Port Everglades as the host port for the Wonder of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in the world. - Port Everglades

  • The Wellbeing Buzz Logo was created to represent the County's WellBeing Program newsletter, an internal communication piece for employees featuring County benefits and programs, and to stand out from regular County business emails and messaging. - Human Resources 
  • Florida International Trade and Cultural Expo is a unique annual gathering designed to engage high-level government leaders, international trade experts, and delegations from around the world in dialogues relating to international trade, foreign direct investment, and culture towards the enhanced development of South Florida's diverse economic ecosystems. - Office of Economic and Small Business Development

  • Everglades Holiday Park Newly Renovated Campaign highlighted the transformational $15.8 million renovation project through a ribbon cutting, social media videos, earned media opportunities and email newsletters. - Parks and Recreation Division
  • Wildlife Wednesday Video Series introduces the community to the parks while educating viewers about the animals they may see there and sharing important facts about native wildlife, as well as highlighting the beauty and diversity of our parks. - Parks and Recreation Division
  • Port Everglades Receives $19 Million Federal Grant News Release provided information to the public on the significance of the grant and positioned the port as a future recipient of additional grants. - Port Everglades

National Association of Counties (NACo)

Broward County has received 17 Achievement Awards in 2023 from the National Association of Counties (NACo) for innovative County government programs that strengthen services for residents and are effectively communicated and relevant to the community.​

  • Inaugural World Diversity Week: Broward County's Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) hosted the inaugural Worl​d Diversity Week program, May 16-20, 2022, recognizing and celebrating the cultural backgrounds of the airport community.   • Air Quality Science Program: A science program for students to participate in the analysis of air pollution data and learn about the main causes of air pollution. (Children and Youth) - Natural Resources Division
  • Beat the Heat Broward Storymap: A public-facing landing page containing information on heat in Broward County that could empower both the Broward resident, and resilience planner/ government employee to take informed action given the presented disparity of extreme heat distribution and the forecasted increase in temperature.   • ​Mobility Advancement Program Public Perception Survey and Community Focus Groups: MAP Broward conducted a mobility public survey and formed community focus groups to understand and be responsive to community needs while educating them about the 30-year mobility program that will transform the transportation landscape in Broward County.   • A Conversation Series for Women: Increases awareness about resources available for women, women entrepreneurs and women-owned businesses and shares personal and professional insights and tips for success. (Community and Economic Development) - Office of Economic and Small Business Development
  • University Student Practicum Program (USPP): A planned program through the Human Services Department to provide students with meaningful clinical learning experiences within Human Services agencies in Broward County.   • Interactive Contracts Management Data Visualization: An invaluable self-service tool allowing staff to meet goals and implement mission essential functions without the costly interruptions caused by expired contracts or exceeded expenditure thresholds, allowing Broward County agencies to be better managed, more efficient and more cost-effective.   • Document the Floods: A citizen science initiative using a web-based crowdsourcing tool to collect photos and observations from members of the public about the frequency and extent of flooding due to either rainfall or high tides. (County Resiliency) - Resilient Environment Department
  • Smoking Vehicle Program: This program functions on a public reporting system to identify smoking vehicles operating on Broward County roads, with the goal of having the owners of such vehicles fix them to reduce the amount of air pollution being emitted. (County Resiliency) - Natural Resources Division
  • Animal Care Dania Beach Case: Broward County Animal Care is engaging the 31 municipalities, the Seminole Tribe, and the Broward Sheriff's Office in a systematic training program focused on unified response to animal-related concerns, utilizing evidence and current best practices that resulted in a successful multi-organizational rescue response to a home containing more than 60 starving dogs living in horrific conditions. (Criminal Justice and Public Safety) - Animal Care
  • Medication Program: Broward County's only certified Sexual Assault Program, Child Advocacy Center, and Child Protection Team, located at the Nancy J. Cotterman Center (NJCC), implemented a medication program in which survivors of sexual assault and victims of child sexual abuse have access to prophylaxis medication at no cost. (Health) - Nancy J.   • Broward County Saves Costs and Enhances Network Capabilities with MPLS: Broward County's Enterprise Technology Services Division implemented a Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network to improve communication speeds and data privacy for the multiple business lines of local government in a cost-efficient model ensuring clients have reliable and fast access to their data.   • Maximo Asset Management Project: An airport-wide asset and work management mobility solution launched at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). The fully mobile solution allows real-time communication with field technicians using smart handheld devices. The technology enhances airside and landside operations by connecting work management and location services, map layers, and building levels, providing FLL leaders with a consolidated view of airport activities.   • BCL to Go – Workforce Ready: Assists job seekers in underserved areas of Broward County that were particularly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. It provides free digital workstations that include tablets, internet hotspots and online resources as well as a series of Workforce Ready employability workshops. (Libraries) - Broward County Library
  • Ready for College: Designed to assist high school students in navigating the college application process and improve their college preparation skills. The program is broken into sections for either the SAT and ACT test prep or College Readiness workshops. (Libraries) - Broward County Library
  • Dynamic COVID Response Data Visualization: Utilizing data analytics and visualization best practices to create self-service business intelligence dashboards and reports to aid Broward County in its response to and recovery from the physical, economic, and social impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.   • Broward County Transit Late Shift Connect ​Program: A new transit service that subsidizes rides for late-shift commuters who are not able to utilize BCT's bus service during the late night or early morning hours when the fixed route buses are not in service.
